Splash SC is an educational philanthropy with the mission of providing education enrichment programs for students in USC’s surrounding communities. To achieve this, Splash SC hosts a program each semester, inviting students from neighboring high schools to take classes taught by USC students in a wide array of subjects, ranging from Personal Finance to Yoga to History of China through Snacks. Beyond the content of the classes themselves, Splash SC strives to instill a sense of curiosity and passion in both the high school students and college students—learning for the love of learning.
A Brief History of Splash
Having only been a student organization since 2016, Splash SC has had the generous support of the USC Undergraduate Student Government and Learning Unlimited in funding and mentorship, respectively. With their guidance and the passion and hard work of each semester’s Admin team, three Splashes have been hosted, totaling over 240 student participants and 100 USC student teachers.
Moving into the fourth Splash, we hope to be able to further expand our influence and impact on the communities we touch, working with USC programs, like the Neighborhood Academic Initiative, to bring their students to our programs as well. Though Splash SC receives some funding from USC USG and Learning Unlimited, we need your support in order for the fourth Splash to reach its potential and maximize its impact!
What does your money go toward?
Though we receive funding from campus sources, there are some items that are not able to be covered by these funds such as:
Food: We guarantee our student participants lunch on the day of Splash with the intention of removing as many barriers to attendance as we can for them
Teaching Materials: In order to enable our teachers to teach in a format that is most effective for their curriculum, we allot each teacher up to $15 to purchase materials to be used in their classes—this ranges from snacks for our History of China through Snacks class, to henna for Henna Body Art, to notepads for American Short Story Writing.
Miscellaneous Program Costs: This includes signage, printing costs, administrative supplies, and other materials that are not included in our funding applications. In order to keep this program free for our students, we are only able to pay for these items through the generous donations made by people like you!
