USC Rugby 2018 Campaign
Consider The Gift Of Giving To USC's Men's Rugby Club
Last year, USC’s Men’s Rugby team moved from Division 1-AA to Division 1-A in the PAC Rugby Conference. This year, we have embarked on our most ambitious schedule in years. In the Fall 7s campaign, the Trojans registered wins against ASU, Stanford, Cal Poly, and others and tied Utah at the PAC7s. In this Spring XVs campaign, we face nationally ranked programs like Cal, UCLA, Arizona, and Utah.
Additionally, the USC Men’s and Women’s Rugby programs have joined forces. Both teams share practice fields, coaches, and administration. After going to the National Playoffs two years ago, the Women had a difficult run last season. We hope that the integration of our programs will lead to a mutually beneficial exchange of best-practices and institutional stability.
As the demands of the game have increased, so must the financial support for the program. We accepted the challenges that come with our increased commitment and responsibility. You can join us in that journey.
Our donors and team members currently pay for training through coaching and equipment, gear, travel expenses, and field reservations. Your financial support goes directly toward these valuable initiatives:
- Training: USC plays varsity-level teams. We expanded our playing schedule through both the Fall and Spring semesters and therefore require more time and effort from the coaching staff.
- Travel: We have already logged trips to the San Luis Obispo, Arizona, and two to the Bay Area. This Spring, we travel to Cal, SLO, Las Vegas, and Utah.
- Home Field: Because rugby does not have access to an regulation pitch on-campus, we must play our home matches at nearby venues. Use of these facilities comes at a cost.
- Equipment: We hope to purchase a scrum machine, a vital piece of equipment for improving a crucial phase of the game.
We open this campaign to the general public with a goal of $15,000. All contributions go directly toward our program, supplement player-collected dues, and are managed by the university's Recreational Sports Department.
