The Larry Turman Fund for the Peter Stark Program
This year, the Peter Stark Producing Program celebrates the 40th anniversary of its first class. On Sunday, October 20, SCA will be hosting a reunion event in celebration of the many accomplishments of the Stark program and its alumni. It will also serve as an occasion to celebrate and honor the remarkable tenure of our own Larry Turman.
Since joining the USC School of Cinematic Arts in 1991 as Chair of the Peter Stark Producing Program, Larry's impact on the lives and careers of his students has been immeasurable. Indeed, for many Starkies, our careers began when we got the call from Larry to join the program. The lessons he taught us - and the instructors he found to teach us - were a huge factor in our success.
Whereas the program previously had a reputation as being business-focused, under Larry's tenure it's changed to approach producing as a creative position, broadening its spectrum to include courses that focus on the creative challenges to making movies, television, or new media projects.
While our reunion event will not be a farewell party, it will be a chance to recognize Larry for all he's done for us and the program.
HONORING HIS LEGACY:
We hope you'll join us in honoring Larry's incredible 25+ years of service with a gift to the Larry Turman Fund for the Peter Stark Producing Program. This fund will support the immediate needs of the program, at the discretion of the Chair. In particular, the funds will be used to support Starkies who may otherwise be unable to attend or complete the program. Our goal is to announce at our reunion event that we have raised the $100,000 in order to endow this fund. Endowed funds at the USC School of Cinematic Arts will last in perpetuity, thereby supporting generations to come while serving as testimony to Larry’s transformative tenure and lasting impact at SCA.
We hope that you will contribute in whatever way you can as we honor Larry and further cement his legacy at SCA. Your support and involvement at the School of Cinematic Arts means a great deal.
Thank you and Fight On!
