The USC Racing Team's Road to the 2019 Formula SAE Competition
We are the University of Southern California chapter of Formula SAE. We are an entirely student-run organization that designs, constructs, tests and races high performance autocross racecars. USC Racing consists of a diverse group of more than 40 members, ranging from freshman to graduate students. Though most members major in mechanical engineering, other majors include electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering and business. Since our re- founding in 2010, the team has committed itself to building a strong knowledge base in order to advance our technical expertise and also to provide students of all backgrounds with a formative and exciting learning experience outside of classes. USC Racing prides itself equally on its motorsports prowess and the exhilarating and highly valuable out-of-class experience it provides.
The Road to Lincoln, Nebraska and the 2019 Formula SAE Competition
Last year, the team placed 12th out of 80 in the Lincoln, NE, competition while finishing all events including Endurance for the second consecutive time. This year, we are extremely optimistic, with a top 10 finish with a placement design finals within our sights. By improving from last year’s design and continuing to train our drivers properly, we feel that we can improve our team’s results and, in the process, create the best vehicle in its history. With a new integrated AEM ECU, launch control system, steering pick up points redesign for a reduction in steering effort, respectively, and a few more changes to our powertrain system we can’t wait to unveil, we are feeling truly optimistic in reaching top 10 this year.
Our team is in the middle of building our 2019 competition car! This campaign is our last push to ensure that all of our final needs are met for the upcoming competition (June 19-22) - Formula SAE Lincoln. We’ve managed to cover much of the project ourselves, but we need your help funding the traveling expenses and the remaining necessary items.
