Trojan Archery 2019 Outdoor Season

Who We Are

Founded in 1927, Trojan Archery is a student organization recognized by USC and Rec Sports with a hugely diverse membership in academic degrees, age, and backgrounds. Our talented, certified coaches are volunteers dedicating their time and expertise. We consider archery to be a unique sport that is more approachable to first time student athletes, because it allows them to move at their own pace and physical intensity, while building confidence and healthy peer relationships. It is both an individual and team sport with a wide variety of physical capabilities. We try to embody the spirit of archery by making the sport as accessible and enjoyable as possible for the Trojan Community.

With 80 members, we have become one of the largest collegiate archery clubs in the Western Region, and we are becoming one of the most dedicated to archery education. As one of the only clubs that offers ongoing free beginner classes, we teach between 300 to 400 students new to archery every year! We retain nearly a quarter of all archers who come through our program, and about half of our members join the team. We are equally becoming one of the most competitive archery clubs in the Western Region, and we need your help to beat the competition!

By giving to Trojan Archery at USC, you help USC students to:

  • Become strong athletes, both physically and mentally
  • Develop healthy relationships with fellow Trojans and other collegiate archers
  • Compete individually and as a team representing USC and Trojan pride
  • Develop leadership skills as club officers, team captains, + certified instructors
  • Achieve goals, including the real possibility of participating in the Olympics

Like most sports, archery can have a financial barrier preventing students from fully participating. While we attempt to make the sport accessible by providing equipment and training, and by subsidizing competition expenses, we are not always able to meet everyone’s needs and desires, especially considering the extent of our growth.

Here is an idea of what it takes to support our members:

  • Team travel expenses can add up to nearly $8000 annually
  • General equipment and upkeep averages at least $2000 annually
  • To provide a single bow setup to an archer costs between $300 to $800
  • To replace a bale to maintain our PED range costs about $400 (we have 8)

We raise what we can through dues and by requesting support from our peer organizations at USC, but nearly all the funding we receive is generated from students! To ease the financial burden on students, we ask for your support to alleviate the costs of maintaining our archery program and sustaining our travel expenses.

This year, we are building one of our most competitive outdoor teams yet. We want to be able to send as many prepared team members as possible to participate in these outdoor competitions both to strongly represent USC, as well as to give our members the opportunity who otherwise may never be able to go again!

Specifically, we aim to fundraise enough to:

  • Send up to 15 archers to the West Regional Outdoor Collegiate Championships
  • Send up to 5 archers to National Outdoor Collegiate Championships
  • Support our Coaches and expand our equipment library

One of the most amazing aspects of archery is the rate of development within the sport. With enough dedication and guidance, archers who begin now could potentially qualify for the Olympics in the near future. Some of our archers aspire to be Resident Athletes at the Olympic Training Center, while others want to maintain the same standards and shoot alongside of Olympians such as Brady Ellison (pictured left) and Olympic Hopeful Jack Williams (pictured right). In the past, we have had archers qualify as Alternates on Team USA, and at any point we could develop Olympians!

Help Us to Exceed Our Goals!

While these are our hopes for fundraising this year, it would be spectacular to be able to exceed these goals and further support our student athletes and Coaches! Give what you can, support students' dreams and development! There's no limit to our potential or to this fundraising goal!

All donations to Trojan Archery through USC are tax deductible and could be potentially matched by employers! Donors can often request a matching donation form for their employer’s personnel office. By listing USC as the charitable organization and notifying us of the donation, a single donor can double or even triple the donation amount! Incredible!
