Celebrating 90 Years of Imagination, Innovation, and Inspiration

At the USC School of Cinematic Arts, we are dedicated to providing an educational experience that enables and encourages success at every level across the full spectrum of film, television and interactive media. Our reputation as leaders and innovators precedes us around the world, and every year, our global network of alumni and students continues to uphold that reputation through their innumerable achievements to the industry. As the only school in the world that teaches all aspects of the cinematic arts, SCA is always at the forefront of change and is the most reliable training ground for the media industry’s next generation of visionary leaders and scholars.

Training Tomorrow’s Innovators

For ninety years, SCA has been Hollywood’s most reliable and consistent training ground for its next generation of creative and executive talent. The School of Cinematic Arts is home to a uniquely inspiring place made up of people who hail from across the United States and around the world. The viewpoints and experiences encountered here represent the full breadth of humanity and inspire a passion for transformative, cinematic storytelling that celebrates diversity and advances understanding. Whether specializing in scholarly analysis or production, the SCA campus inspires those endeavors, with its state-of-the-art classrooms and cutting-edge equipment. This includes everything from the most advanced professional-grade cameras to state-of-the-art virtual and augmented reality technologies—and that’s not to mention the countless other expenses that go into even the most basic production, such as industry-standard lights, editing bays, sound mixing and ADR rooms, props, set construction materials, and other necessary production equipment.

While the best cameras, labs, and screening rooms can’t guarantee success, it’s impossible to experience the most innovative curriculum in cinematic media without them. And we could not do this without the support of alumni, parents, and friends like you.

Our recruitment efforts—especially in reaching talented high school students from underrepresented communities—benefit from the support of the entire Trojan community. More than 75% of SCA students need some form of financial aid to enroll in our programs. Our determination to attract students from around the world who have the potential to create inspiring, impactful work fuels the need to grow our work. The School’s success in this area would not be possible without dedicated support from alumni, parents and friends who value the School’s importance to the continued growth of our industry.

In the classrooms, laboratories, stages, screening rooms and other facilities of our Cinematic Arts Complex, SCA students are at the forefront of technological developments in our industry. Our faculty are some of the most acclaimed and accomplished practitioners and scholars in their areas of expertise. They serve as teachers, mentors, collaborators and guides in helping students discover their own unique voices within an expanding spectrum of creative technologies and emerging techniques. In addition to the majors of its seven division, SCA now offers 18 minors including Game Entrepreneurism, Science Visualization, Entertainment Business, Media & Social Change, and Comedy. There are interdivisional collaborations in Augmented and Virtual Reality, Visual Effects and Motion Graphics, Multi-Genre World Building, Themed Entertainment and other areas. The goal is to give students comprehensive exposure to all facets of moving arts production and scholarship in keeping with our teaching philosophy which is built on the understanding that people learn best by doing.

From Classroom to Industry Professional

Through our Office of Industry Relations, we partner with companies to provide internships and jobs to students and recent graduates and provide support in getting their work to film festivals around the world and other distribution channels. The quality of work from our students and alumni is why the School of Cinematic Arts is where the industry looks first when hiring the next generation of media makers, scholars, and innovators.

As a collective, our Trojan Family is united in the effort to help each and every student make the transition from student to professional media creators and scholars. Our faculty members are making sure they are knowledgeable about the tools and techniques that are transforming and defining creative work in the 21st century. Our 14,000+ alumni—many of them among the biggest names in our field—are eager to provide the mentorship that has come to define the SCA alumni network.

Our Shared Goal

Our stories thrive because of our wonderful community of supporters who have a love for the power of creativity. Generous support from alumni, parents and friends like you allows us to attract and enroll the most talented amateur media makers and to facilitate their journey in becoming professionals. It allows us to keep pace with the ever changing landscape of our industry and to insure our graduates have the confidence to continue using their voice once they leave campus. Making a gift today to the USC SCA 90th Anniversary Fund in celebration of our anniversary will strengthen our SCA network and help pave the way for the next generation of storytellers and innovators.

Thank you and Fight On!
