2018 PTMLA Scholarship
The USC Physical Therapy Multicultural Leadership Alliance (PTMLA) is a student-run organization striving to raise awareness about physical therapy as a profession and healthcare service. The leadership and service opportunities afforded through outreach events and educational programs at local schools are enriching for both the students and communities involved. PTMLA is active in serving global communities in need and promoting awareness of PT as a profession in the local community.
PTMLA seeks to raise $4,500 to provide scholarships to incoming Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students of a minority background who are motivated to serve communities from various cultures and promote diversity within physical therapy.
The purpose of the scholarship is to offset the unmet financial need of students receiving a graduate education and increase minority attendance.
Make a gift today to help us award two DPT students in Fall 2018 at the USC Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy's Convocation and White Coat Ceremony. Your gift allows us to continually support DPT students pursuing professional excellence and service.

& Your PTMLA Officers
Ensenada Service Learning Trip 2018 - Doctor of Physical Therapy students travel on a semi-annual basis to provide care to pediatric/neurologic patient populations at Gabriel House.
USC Physician's Assistant Pipeline Program: Emi Puzo (Class of 2020), along with her fellow PTMLA members, presented to high school students about the physical therapy profession and gave them the opportunity to try out skills (ROM, muscle tests) and exercises.
Hawaiian Gardens Fun Run and Health Fair: Melinda Lau and David Tang (Class of 2019) participated in the Hawaiian Gardens Health fair where they organized a booth informing the community about the physical therapy profession and the importance of staying active.
PTMLA IN DEPTH Talks/Speaker Series: For our first speaker event, Dr. Jesus Dominguez (USC Faculty and Head of Admissions) informed us about the race/ethnicity gaps within the physical therapy profession and within physical therapy schools. The discussion sparked some great ideas on how to increase diversity within our own campus.
PTMLA Friendsgiving: Students, staff, and faculty from the division gather on an annual basis to showcase their talents and Thanksgiving family traditions. Participants cook, bake, dance, and sing for a full night of entertainment. There is also a canned food drive and raffle where faculty raffle off prizes to the students (including baking with our professors, playing volleyball with the faculty, etc.).
