Neurocamp: Teaching Neuroscience to Kids
Neurocamp is an event held by Interaxon at USC every semester where we host a day of Neuroscience-themed learning and activities on campus. In addition to our school visits Neurocamp provides a valuable opportunity for bright, young students to learn in a college setting and hopefully inspire them to obtain higher education and pursue careers in Neuroscience. All donations will go directly to funding Neurocamp for food, water, supplies, and logistical support (including items such as name tags for students and signage for directions.
Each semester, we pick a theme and organize our event around that theme. In Fall 2024, our theme was “Neuroscience Detectives,” where we presented students with case studies of patients struggling with symptoms to find the “suspect” brain region that is affected. Students are introduced in a large group, rotating through the presentations in smaller groups.
There is an additional section for Q and A where the students can ask for help or advice on college applications, career opportunities and how to study. During our lunch, we engage with students by playing games and doing crafts. One recurring activity encourages students to make their own neuron from pipe cleaners and beads, with the winner getting a prize at the end of the day.
Please consider donating to help support and potentially expand our reach through Neurocamp. Thank you for taking the time to learn about our organization!
