Mobile Clinic at USC Together for Wellness
Who?
Mobile Clinic at USC (MC@SC) is a student-run service organization dedicated to increasing access to health resources and support through a community-centered approach.Although our outreach extends across Los Angeles, we focus our efforts on providing our programming to unhoused and underserved community members in Skid Row and DTLA. Every semester, we host over 12 community-health events at local unhoused shelters and communityhealth fairs. At these events, we provide hypertension and diabetes screenings to promote early prevention and supportive disease management in partnership with Keck attending physicians and residents. In addition, we pair these health screenings with games, crafts, and themed events to create an inviting space where we can have fun and foster lasting connections with shelter residents. Through our community-centered approach to health built on trust and rapport, we have screened over 100 individuals this past Fall.
What?
Our services are completely free of cost to our community! We are fundraising in order to purchase supplies for our events, including A1c/Diabetes tests, feminine care products, and hygiene/self care products which we assemble into wellness kits. We use these funds to purchase craft supplies, games, and self-care products, selected based on feedback from shelter residents and staff. We bring these items to our next screening events, typically every 2 weeks, to continue forming meaningful relationships between our team and the shelter residents.
Why?
Our mission is to help all individuals – whether they are residents of our partner shelters or local community members – stay informed about their health and feel empowered to take charge of their well-being by offering preventative health screenings and health education, connecting them to relevant resources, and fostering a sense of community through our events.By placing an emphasis on the humanistic nature of healthcare, we hope to counteract the disproportionate rates of negative health outcomes among the unhoused population, especially within the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities we serve. Your support will help us continue building connections with the individuals we serve and promote positive relationships with health. Thank you for joining Together for Wellness!
