Latino Student in Law
Who We Are
Founded and established in the Spring of 2023, Latino Students in Law (LSL) is a pioneering student organization committed to empowering undergraduate students pursuing legal careers. We help provide support for all USC students in Law, including first-generation college students, and children of immigrants. Through our shared cultural identity, we foster meaningful connections while providing essential resources and educational opportunities to USC students that need our assistance. Your support enables us to continue developing the next generation of resilient and passionate attorneys who will advance diversity in the legal profession.
Our Impact: What You Help LSL Provide
In just one complete year, we have hosted several exceptional series of events featuring prominent legal professionals including:
- The Honorable Patricia Guerrero, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of California, and the first Latian to hold this position, who shared invaluable insights from her journey as a first-generation student.
- Camille Vasquez, a USC Latina alumna and prominent attorney known for high-profile cases including Johnny Depp's defamation trial and Gloria Trevi’s civil litigation. Vasquez shared advice and encouragement to USC pre-law students navigating the legal field as first generation.
- Anthony Solana, President and Chairperson of 'For People of Color, Inc.' who emphasized the importance of organizations creating their own career opportunities for minorities to increase diversity in any field, such as our organization. He also shared strategies for accessing affordable legal education and advocating for financial aid. He is quoted saying “Being shy is too expensive” when it comes to career opportunities. He encouraged students to tie their own background to their passions when applying to law school.
- Gould School of Law Student students offered candid perspectives on the law school experience through our Law Student Panel event.
John Hoyt, Director of Admissions at USC Gould Law School, provided strategic guidance on law school admission and career planning: how to research law school and how to invest in our future careers.
Cindy Garcia Ward, an inspiring Immigration Attorney, described the injustice that undocumented families experience, and her role as an advocate for those in need of legal services.
We have also launched a mentorship program that pairs members with current Law School Students for personalized guidance.
